Having trouble logging in to YouTube?

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Many of you have linked YouTube to your existing Google accounts.  Some have reported that they receive an error when they try to log in to their google account, despite being linked to YouTube.

With the recently added ability to “link” your account, YouTube now allows google account holders to rate/comment/subscribe to content without actually having a YouTube channel on their account.

We are working on an update to support these new “linked accounts” that are active on YouTube that do not have a YouTube channel, but, in the meantime – if you would like to login to YouTube using our app – simply add a channel to your account.  It’s free, takes only a couple seconds, and it doesn’t mean you have to start uploading videos.

To add a channel to your YouTube-Linked google account, simply visit the Create Channel page on YouTube by clicking here:

Once you add a channel, you can use all of the YouTube specific functionality in our apps without issue.

Bug in posting replies to comments in all YouTube apps

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Thanks to Erin, one of our faithful PhillyD app users, we have discovered a bug in our app framework.  It seems that the folks at YouTube have slightly changed the API responsible for posting comment replies.  Comments post fine, but when you try to reply to another user’s comment, you get an error that looks like this:

I am coding the fix for this now, and it will be in all of the updates – which I will be submitting to Apple this weekend.

Thank you to Erin for reporting this issue.  If you are reading this message and you know of any other bugs, or have feature suggestions – please let us know by using the contact button on the About tab – located under “More” from the main tab bar in any of our apps.

Push Notification Delays

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Several of you have reported that the push notifications on some of our popular apps appear to be delayed.  We’ve done some research, and we can see delays in push notification times so we wanted to explain what is happening.

In order to send you push notifications about “new videos”, our server has to be aware of them.  To do this, our server periodically checks YouTube to see if there are any new videos for the channels that we cover with our apps.  When a content creator posts a new video, it takes a variable period of time before that video begins appearing in YouTube’s data feeds – the feeds we use to get video information.

It appears that around August 30, the time between a content creator “publishing” a new video, and the time that it begins appearing in YouTube’s feeds has increased.  Unfortunately, since this is internal to the YouTube feeds – we cannot do anything about this ourselves.  We have reported the issue to our contacts at YouTube and hope that there is something that they can fix on their end to bring the Push Notification delays back down to the level that they were prior to August 30.

We’ll keep monitoring the delays, and hope that they get better soon.  We will post further updates as things progress.

As always, thank you for using our apps and thank you to those have reported this to us using the “Contact” feature in all of our apps!

Update coming for OlgaKay app.

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Earlier today it was reported to us that in our current version of the OlgaKay app, you are unable to save tab-bar customizations.  We have located the source of the issue, repaired it, and have submitted an update to Apple that resolves this issue.

As soon as this update is approved, it will be available for download in the app store.

As always, thank you to our loyal fans who take the time to report these issues to us.  We do our best to repair issues as soon as possible.

iJustine’s Website Feed is Down

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

You may have noticed that when you load the Unofficial iJustine app, the Mobile tab is reporting an error. This tab works by reading the WordPress feed on iJustine’s site (not the feedburner feed). For some reason, the wordpress feed is reporting an error. Until this error is resolved, the mobile tab will not function.

The workaround is to use the “Web” tab. In the default configuration, the Web tab is located on the more tab. Of course, remember that you can always edit which buttons show up on the main tab bar by using the Edit function from the more screen.

Because we do not have a quick way to contact iJustine (other than her super busy public contact mechanisms) – we can not provide an ETA for when this will be repaired.

When the feed is back up and running, we will post again on this blog. Thanks for using our apps!
